Flag Day Ceremony -2005

12 Eagle Scouts of the SE Pennsylvania Lafayette District were recently honored and awarded “Certificates of Achievement” and American Flags at the Elks Flag Day ceremony sponsored by Norristown Elks Lodge No. 714.  The ceremony was held at a local high school on Saturday morning, June 11th.  (Front L-R) Allen Woodard Jr. Troop 622, Brian Portzer Troop 313, Ben Hornstein Troop 313, Chris Partlow Troop 406, Exalted Ruler Larry Miller, Patrick Boyle Troop 752, Andrew Graff Troop 267 and Scott Schultz Troop 622.  (Back L-R)  Chris Tini Troop 481, Thomas Michael Troop 231, Joseph Aranowski Troop 87 and Mark Abdallah Troop 182.

 

“Local Girl Awarded National Money”  (Click here for Picture)

The Elks National Foundation along with Elks Lodge No. 714 bestowed the “Most Valuable Student” Scholarship award to recent Norristown Area High School graduate Lauren Biscombe.  Out of 11,000 applicants nationwide, Lauren was one of 500 students chosen from across the country to receive a scholarship award of $4000.00.  Lauren will be using her scholarship money to attend MIT in the fall.  The Elks are ranked as one of the largest private providers of scholarships in the United States, when all is said and done, donating more than $8 million in scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors. The Elks Top “Most Valuable Student” awards are the largest scholarships awarded by a fraternal or service organization. Presenting Lauren her award at the Elks Flag Day Ceremony are (L-R) Exalted Ruler Larry Miller and SE District Scholarship Chairman S. David DeStefano.
